The latest reports from the Education Department of the Soroti Church of Uganda Diocese and VERY encouraging. Below are some of the highlights from 2015 (where the project has been supported by TDT this is highlighted):
• 43 vulnerable children trained in brick-laying / tailoring / carpentry at Ngariam Technical Institute (supported by TDT)
• 60 Sunday School Teachers trained
• Over 3,500 young people came to faith in Christ through school outreach events and conferences
• 3000 girls in 10 schools have bee trained in menstrual hygiene and have been provided with reusable sanitary pads, to help keep them in school
• A book and craft shop has been opened in Soroti (supported by TDT)
The department also has ambitious plans for the next year. These include:
• Complete and furnish 2 hostels being built in Serere archdeaconry
• Furnish the book shop for improved income generation to run the department
• Continue support Ngariam Skills Centre, also do the Fencing and establish welding workshop at Ngariam skills development centre (funding has already been made available from TDT to finance this)
• Have 2 training events for Sunday school teachers, youth leaders and church leaders
• Have 2 school missions in July and October
