In September we received news that a large area of Amuria sub-county had suffered flooding, affecting more than 30,000 people. TDT launched an appeal to provide necessary relief. In October we were able to send £2000, which provided tarpaulins and water purifying tablets to 100 families. In a further development the Souter Foundation has given a grant of £3000, which was sent to Teso at the end of November. The extra money has enabled the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Church in the area to facilitate the distribution of food to 200 families.
For now, these families have food, shelter and safe water. However, This area of Teso is prone to flooding and efforts are under way to begin projects that limit the damage it causes. PAG are looking at providing training on building flood-resistant homes and promoting the use of flood-resilient agriculture.
