During the TDT visit to Teso in June / July we witnessed the desperate food shortage that is
quickly developing in Amuria. The flooding at the end of last year destroyed the majority of crops that would have fed the people through to the spring. This has been followed by 2 months of drought, causing the current harvest to fail. Many people in the area have been living off mangos for the past few weeks, and now these are running out. Malnutrition is already widespread in the district of Amuria, with starvation being a real threat in the next 2-3 weeks.
TDT have been able to send an emergency fund of £4000 to provide initial help for the most vulnerable. However, at least £10,000 is needed. This will help feed people who are most at risk until they are able to harvest some more crops in 2 months time.
If you are able to help please donate online or by post (details on the sidebar).
Thank you.
